Nintendo NX Release Date & Price: Nintendo NX Will Cost $299, Says Game Expert, 'Doomed Before it Launches'?

Nintendo aims to break the gaming market by releasing its own console with Nintendo NX. But many are wary that it will suffer the same tragic fate as its predecessor: The Nintendo Wii U.

For game analyst Michael Pachter, the Nintendo NX must launch with a competitive price tag if it wants to compete with PS4 and Xbox One.

According to SegmentNext, Pachter said that Nintendo's biggest mistake was launching Wii U for $349 -- a price too steep compared to other consoles. Hopefully, the company will not make the same error again. Pachter predicted that the Nintendo NX will cost $299.

Aside from the price, the key for him is third-party support.

"If Nintendo gets the same level of support for NX that it got for the Wii U, it's doomed before it launches," Pachter explains in his YouTube channel. "That's much, much more important than the price. If they get third-party support, if they make it in such a way that everyone can port every game over and the incremental cost to make if for Xbox One, PS4 and NX is $1-2 million, every game will be there."

According to Express UK, both Capcom and EA Games have asked if they planned to support the makers of Super Mario's new console. Both gave different answers.

Capcom reportedly answered, "Our R&D operations are working on technologies for many types of hardware. We will consider the possibility of creating technology demonstrations and making versions of titles under development for these new platforms."

As for EA, CEO Andrew Wilson did not confirm any plans of support.

"I think the publishers are leery of Nintendo. I think they got burned by the Wii, - especially Ubisoft. So, I think they are going to be very, very cautious," said Pachter. "The more this thing looks like a PS4 or Xbox One I think the better it does, and, ultimately, the only people who are going to buy it are people that don't have a PS4 or Xbox One. Or, people who have a PS4 or Xbox One, and want to play Nintendo games."

Nintendo is expected to reveal its official plans for the NX in 2016.
