Chris Pine arrested for drunk driving in New Zealand

Chris Pine was arrested for drunk driving in New Zealand earlier this month following a work party.

According to a report in Stuff.co.nz, police stopped the "Star Trek" actor during a routine check soon after he left the "Z for Zacharaiah" wrap party held at Blue Pub in the Methven neighborhood of Canterbury in the wee hours of March 1.

Pine, 33, reportedly failed a blood examination and will now appear in the Ashburton District Court on Monday. He was charged with driving with excessive alcohol in blood.

Casey Crawford, manager of Blue Pub, told the media on Tuesday that Pine appeared to be fine prior to leaving the wrap party around 2.30 a.m.

The website quotes Crawford as saying that the bar was closed for the public for the event, which was attended by 80 members of the film unit. The pub manager expressed surprise over Pine's arrest as well as the charges brought against him as the pub had organized sober drivers that night and informed all the guests about it, he said.

Crawford added that he knew that the city police were running a drunk-driving operation that night.

Pine is in New Zealand for the outdoor shooting of "Z for Zacharaiah" along with Margot Robbie, the Australian-born actor of "The Wolf of Wall Street" and Academy-award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, who starred in "12 Years A Slave." The cast and crew of the film were in Methven for shooting at the Washpen Falls, close to Windwhistle.

"A 33-year-old American national was stopped during a routine drink-drive operation near Methven, Mid-Canterbury, on March 1," the local police said in a statement after news of Pine's arrest began to spread.

"He has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol and will appear in the Ashburton District Court on Monday 17 March," it continued. "Given that the matter is now before the court police will not be releasing any further information."
