Will Smith returns to New York, on the hunt for a family home

Will Smith is back in New York again reportedly on the hunt for a family home.

According to the New York Post, the actor, rapper and producer took a look at a penthouse at 640 Broadway. The monthly rent for the home, also known as 640 Noho, is $19,900. The unit is listed with Rory Nichols of Town Residential.

Smith and his family arrived at the property in an Escalade convoy accompanied by his wife Jada, daughter Willow and entourage - including an assistant, a bodyguard and a broker.

The penthouse is a part of a building constructed by the famed Macy's Herald Square architects DeLemos & Cordes in 1896. The home features 12-foot ceilings and a 1,000-square-foot private roof deck accessible through a staircase made of steel and glass. Although Smith is said to have liked the property, the Post notes that it may not offer enough privacy to the star described as the "most powerful actor in Hollywood" by Newsweek in 2007.

During his last stay in New York, the 45-year-old actor is said to have infuriated his neighbors in SoHo by parking a $2.5 million double-decker trailer dubbed "The Heat," which served as his movie trailer digs, and another gym trailer, on the street.

"Hard-working New Yorkers have a right to wake up in the morning and not find a cruise ship parked out in front of their house," an outraged Public Safety Committee Chairman Peter Vallone remarked at the time.

Smith rose to fame in the late 1980s as a rapper under the name The Fresh Prince. In 1990, his popularity skyrocketed when he starred in the popular television series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."

In the mid-1990s, Smith moved from television to film, and ultimately starred in numerous blockbuster movies. He is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the domestic box office, and eleven successive films gross over $150 million internationally.

Smith has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards.
