'iPhone 7' Release Date, Review, Specs, Price: 3D Touch Impresses But Very Similar to 2014 Model, Battery Life May Be Bad

We are one calendar year away from the next Apple flagships but rumors about the iPhone 7 is already surfacing online.

"iPhone 7" Specs, Rumors

Reports suggest that an iPhone 7 with OLED screen may not be coming to life, but a smaller "iPhone 7C" might. This should be a good and significant improvement from the "iPhone 6" batch, especially that the "iPhone 6S" is practically similar to the "iPhone 6", with only the 3D Touch as an added feature.

Additional reports about the "iPhone 7" say that the next Apple flagship will be slimmer than the 6S. The phone may go from 6S' 7.1 mm size to around 6 mm or 6.5 mm. As cool as that may seem to look, it may take a hit on the battery life. However, the Galaxy S6 is only a bit thicker at 6.8 mm, so the said "iPhone 7" size is also quite possible.

Furthermore, there are also talks about a sturdier "iPhone 7". According to a source, there are some prototypes of an iPhone with a more ruggedized body, which may mean that the next iPhone may be officially water and dust resistant (the current iPhones may already be resistant to water, only that the company do make the feature official yet).

For the screen, it is expected that the 'iPhone 7" will have a big boost. Apple rivals like Sony's Z5 is already boasting of 4K. Many Android phones are already using QHD as well, so it would really make sense if Apple focus their improvement on the display quality of the "iPhone 7". Although of course, 4K may be too far of a jump for Apple as the "iPhone 6S" isn't even at 1080p right now.

Battery-wise, we can't keep our hopes up, especially that the 6S didn't impress much on this department. So with that record at hand, plus a possible decrease in phone thickness, the "iPhone 7" may actually steer away from a big juice pack.

For the iPhone 7's internals, there are talks about a hexa core A10 chip. It is a very big improvement compared to the 6S, but taking this thought with a grain of salt would be a great idea as nothing about the hardware has been made official as of the moment. For the RAM, it's difficult to expect more from Apple, especially when they pushed 2 GB on its previous flagship, at a time when 3 GB is the new RAM fad. However, there may be an OS upgrade ready for the iPhone 7's release. We are talking iOS 10 here, but what the new OS has in store for us still remains a mystery.

"iPhone 7" Cost, Release Date

Official release date may occur somewhere in September next year, though there are rumors saying it could come earlier. But it's better if we just expect it to come by September as this is the quarter when Apple normally releases their flagship. For the iPhone 7's cost, it can be the same as 6S' current retail price which starts at $649 and going upwards depending on the variant. And if Apple kicks away the 16 GB model for the "iPhone 7", the starting cost should also be higher.
