'The Vampire Diaries' Alum Ian Somerhalder Reveals He Was Pleased To See Nina Dobrev Exit The CW Series, Says He Didn't Want To Share Spotlight With His Ex?

"The Vampire Diaries" alum Ian Somerhalder recently talked about Nina Dobrev's exit from the series and said that he was okay with his ex-girlfriend's decision.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Somerhalder didn't have any problems with Dobrev's exit because he didn't want to share the spotlight with her. Additionally, Somerhalder reportedly wanted to make sure that he will no longer have problems or issues with his wife Nikki Reed.

"While Ian praised everyone's work in a great effort to appear humble and appreciative, it's pretty clear Somerhalder likes the new focus and attention on his character. Nikki Reed has been pushing Ian to take on bigger projects; possibly trying to convince him to quit 'The Vampire Diaries' to make the jump to a movie career," the publication wrote.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder recently spoke with Variety to say that not much has changed on the hit The CW show since Dobrev left.

"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena was gone. And I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula," he said.

In other news, Somerhalder will have a special episode on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 episode 10. The untitled episode will feature a storyline for the actor's controversial but well-loved character, Damon Salvatore.

"I just started shooting episode 10, which is a concept episode. This episode was really about Damon, but that's not why I think it was the best at all. The way the story was put together..." he said.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
