Los Angeles was hit by a 4.4-magnitude earthquake early Monday morning, less than 24 hours after a 6.7-magnitude quake along Chile's northern Pacific shore triggered the brief evacuation of more than 100,000 residents.
No major damage has been reported in connection to either quake.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter for the first was located 37 miles northwest of the city of Iquique, with the event reaching a depth of 12.4 miles. In California, the quake centered around roughly three to six miles northwest of Westwood and reached a depth of 5.2 miles.
People in Los Angeles were quick to take to Twitter to report on the early morning wakeup call.
