John Cena will host the upcoming reality show "American Grit."
According to WWE, Cena will head the 10-episode military-grade competition with FOX and Leftfield Pictures.
FOX's Entertainment CEO David Madden considered Cena as a "motivational force" to his worldwide fan base. Meanwhile, Leftfield Entertainment CEO and executive producer Brent Montgomery said that the John Cena-led contestants will showcase how "focus, commitment and teamwork" is efficient in the game.
“The U.S. Military is the epitome of resolve and dedication, which is why I am so excited to be a part of 'American Grit',” said Cena. “This show will not only be a challenging and fierce competition, but it will give viewers a glimpse into the perseverance and training of the men and women of the Armed Forces.”
The news was also announced on Twitter by the professional wrestler himself.
"Honored to host #AmericanGrit – A new TV series guiding 16 contestants through military & survival-themed challenges. Coming soon to @FOXTV!" Cena said in his tweet.
The outlet also reported that both WWE and the wrestler have been supporting the U.S. Armed Forces in the past, WWE jumpstarted on their mission to provide entertainment for military members in the country and those who worked abroad.
Sixteen "American Grit" contestants will be judged by a group of mentors called "The Cadre," which consists of experienced military members. It includes Rorke Denver, Noah Galloway, Tawanda “Tee” Hanible and Nick “The Reaper” Irving.
It will feature the roster of the toughest people in America who will have to work together in various challenges in order to win $1 million. They need to overcome "a punishing, endurance-based obstacle course designed to break the weakest competitors," which is called the "Circus."
This is not Cena's first venture beyond his WWE career as a wrestler. He previously starred in WWE-produced films including "The Marine" and appeared in "Saturday Night Live" and "Hannah Montana" in the past. His latest film and TV credits include "Trainwreck" starring Amy Schumer, comedy series "Parks and Recreations" and the reality show "Total Divas."
The reality TV competition "American Grit" with host John Cena will air on 2016 on FOX.
