‘The Walking Dead’ Jon Bernthal is the New Punisher and Marvel Says Fans Will Be Blown Away

"The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal has been announced as the new Punisher in "Daredevil" and Marvel is confident that fans of the vigilante hero will surely love him.

Marvel recently announced that Punisher will appear in the second season of "Daredevil" on Netflix and actor Bernthal was tagged to portray the role of Frank Castle. According to IGN, Joe Quesada, Marvel's Chief Creative Officer talked about Bernthal and his preparations for taking on the role of Punisher. He said, "What I can tell you is that anyone who is a hardcore Punisher fan is going to be blown away and incredibly satisfied by Bernthal's take on Frank Castle. It's one of those cases where it's the character from the pages come to life."

What many fans want to know for sure is whether or not Punisher will have its own show or if it's just a one-time gig for Bernthal. To this query, Quesada played coy and said, "I think we'd love to see something happen. But it's way too soon to tell."

Meanwhile, in a report by Den of Geek, Bernthal is said to have portrayed many roles that are considered "badass" like "Shane Walsh" on the hit TV series "The Walking Dead." But if Marvel executives are right, his turn as the Punisher will be the most noteworthy portrayal. Frank Castle is described as a vigilante whose sole mission in life is to clean up Hell's Kitchen in New York and he will use any means to get the job done.

Bernthal's preparation for the role has already begun. A photo of him inside a comics store was recently posted on Instagram and it showed him holding several copies of The Punisher comic books. Of particular note among the comics he picked is the "Circle of Blood" which is the first time the hero was featured without any crossover roles.
