The first-ever Dota 2 Frankfurt Major tournament has concluded and newly formed Team OG, coming from the bottom of the losers bracket, has claimed 3 to 1 shocking victory over Team Secret.
According to IGN, the Frankfurt Major is Valve's first in its new series seasonal Dota 2 Major Championships. Prior to this, the International Dota 2 Championship, or TI, held every year in Seattle is the only Valve Sanctioned Major Tournament. Being the first in the series of Major Championships, Team OG and Team Secret are the very first finalists. But it was team OG who bagged the ultimate prize of about $1.1 million.
It was a tough win for Team OG. Working their way from the bottom while being in the loser's bracket, the team was always on the verge of getting eliminated from the tournament as they face Fnatic, Mineski, Virtus Pro, CDEC Gaming, EHOME and Evil Geniuses towards the top. While majority of the DOTA fans expected a Team Secret dominated-finals, some even predicted a Secret sweep, nobody expected Team OG to turn the tide with their key 8K MMR player Amer "Miracle" Barqawi.
Two of Team OG's members, Tal "Fly" Aizik from Israel and Johan "BigDaddyN0tail" Sundstein from Denmark, are formerly from Team Secret. The other players are David "Moonmeander" Tan (Canada), Andrea "Cr1t" Nielsen (Denmark) and Amer "Miracle" Barqawi (Jordan). Team OG was formerly known as (monkey) Business that was created shortly after The 5th International DOTA 2 (TI5) Championship.
On the other hand, fan favorite Team Secret, was created initially with two players from Na'Vi, two players from Fnatic and Alliance after TI4. The team has undergone several roster changes in a span of one year with Clement "Puppey" Ivanov now as the only original member remaining.
According to the official Dota 2 blog, the next Major will be in Shanghai. Perfect World will be hosting The Shanghai Major that will be held at the Mercedes Benz Arena from March 2 to 6, 2016.
