'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2' Movie Updates and Spoilers: How Different Is the Movie from the Book?

Millions of avid fans of the dystopian themed book series authored by Suzanne Collins have been waiting for the conclusion of 'The Hunger Games' movie adaptation, with high expectations that the final installment will give justice to the memorable ending of the young adult book.

Loyal readers know that the latter part of Mockingjay contains the darkest scenes, so they want to see how the movie would depict the emotional turning points, tragic deaths and the bloody end to the rebellion. They also want to see if the characters would verbalize the poignant dialogues penned by Collins, which probably moved them to tears at one point while reading the novel.

However, like most movies adapted from book series, there are scenes in 'Mockingjay Part 2' that are not actually consistent with the book. If you haven't watched the film yet, let this serve as a warning that there would be major spoilers below. Read at your own risk!

One of the more present characters in the final parts of the Mockingjay is game maker turned rebel ally Plutarch Heavensbee, played by the late Phillip Seymour. In the book, Plutarch does significant tasks such as showing Katniss the last costume designed for her to wear by her late designer and friend Cinna. He also speaks to the girl on fire to inform her of her trial after she had assassinated President Coin. Since Seymour could not finish filming these parts due to his tragic passing, the team behind the movie had to tweak these parts, according to Yahoo. In the film, Effie was the one to present Katniss her outfit, and Haymitch read a farewell letter from the former game maker telling her what is in store for her after her trial.

Another difference is the missing wedding cake. Though this might be considered a small detail, the cake intricately designed and decorated by the brainwashed Peeta actually meant that he still had his sense of self somewhere inside him. This gave Katniss the idea that he might still be able to recover from being a Capitol mutt because he still remembers something that he did well in the past.

Probably the hardest decision Katniss had to make based from the book is to shoot a civilian in cold blood to protect their mission. This was supposedly included in the scene where the team found shelter in a Capitol apartment. In the movie, however, the place they settled briefly into did not have civilians in it, so Katniss did not need to make the difficult choice of killing an innocent life.

'Mockingjay Part 2' is still showing. Watch the full trailer!

Any part of the book which you strongly think should have been included in the movie?
