Jon Huntsman, former Utah governor, and wife Mary Kaye have recently purchased an upscale McLean home in Virginia outside Washington D.C.
The couple purchased the residence, previously owned by actor-turned-senator Fred Thompson, for $3.1 million, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.
Earlier, the erstwhile Republican presidential nominee and his wife sold their Kalorama mansion, which they acquired in 2010, for $3.7 million. The deal for the McLean mansion closed last month.
The red-brick colonial building has 7,000 square feet of living area spread across four levels, and includes seven bedrooms and five full and one half bathrooms. It features a formal dining room, a library, an expansive kitchen, a den, two great rooms and two sun rooms offering views of the woods at the back of the property. The home also boasts a two-story foyer with multiple chandeliers.
The backyard of the property includes a swimming pool as well as a small outdoor kitchen. The posh neighborhood previously included former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger as well as former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
According to the report, Huntsman fell in love with the property about a decade years ago, when he lived just two or so miles away.
While Huntsman was picked by President George W. Bush in 2001 to be the deputy trade representative, Thompson was a powerful politician in his own right, representing Tennessee from 1994 to 2003 and running for president in 2008.
