"PayDay 2" developer Overkill Software admits screw up and issues an apology.
It has been a rough time for developer Overkill Software since fans have been angered by the micro-transactions that came along with the "Black Market" update for "PayDay 2." According to VG 24/7, the update was supposed to add random items but some of the items are in a safe that required a drill to open and the drills cost $2.50 in real money. The safe was also said to contain some skins that can be traded in Steam's Community Market, not to mention that the developers have previously told fans that "PayDay 2" will not have micro-transactions.
Although micro-transactions are not really new to the community, some of the safe items are believed to be game balancing or altering that a lot of fans are unhappy about. In another news, VG 24/7 says that even after Overkill had made some changes to allow gamers to access the safe for free, the new system still caused fury. The players expressed their anger and dissatisfaction on the game's Steam Community page and subReddit.
Eventually, developer Overkill Software had to suck it up and apologize for its handling of the debated micro-transactions. According to IGN, producer Almir Listo published the statement of apology on their Steam page. The developer has not removed the micro-transactions.
Listo wrote on Steam, "The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging in the history of this community. Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike. For all the distress we've caused the past few weeks, I'd just like to take the time and say that we're sorry. We've done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up."
"We need to get better at many things, and we will do our best to improve as soon as possible."
The lengthy statement was ended with an announcement of the company's next move. Listo stated that they will keep a close watch on Steam Community forums for feedback and will continue to be involved in community discussion. More announcements are expected to come.
First person shooter "PayDay 2" was released in 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
