5 Ways To Keep Not-So-Tall Rooms Stylish

Interior design tips are telling you that in order to achieve a successful design, your home has to have a high ceiling. While a high-ceilinged, light-flooded home is an ideal space to work with, it doesn't mean that low-ceilinged space can't be just as stylish. It's pretty much just using what you have and make it work for you.

Here are 5 ways to keep not-so-tall rooms stylish according to Apartment Therapy:

Keep it simple

When we say keep it simple, we mean sticking to neutrals. If you have a small space, going for an all-white theme can greatly help make your space look a lot more spacious and airy.

Take storage full-height

When you are dealing with a space under 8', you will need every space you can get for storage. For shelving, consider going for those that are open and go up the walls. Apply the same principle with kitchen cabinets. Don't waste your limited vertical space by going for an upper and lower cabinet which leaves a waste space in the middle.

Consider making it a feature

Instead of taking the attention away from the low ceiling, why not do the complete opposite and draw the eyes towards it? You can go for paneled or bead board ceilings to create that feature that will turn the negative to a positive. To better achieve this look, stick to the same material for the ceiling and the floor for continuity and that illusion of flow and serenity.

Keep furniture low

You can't do something with the low ceiling unless you are willing to do the expensive renovation and lift it up. If you don't have the time, budget, and patience for a home project any time soon, address the problem by fooling the eyes. By keeping big pieces such as your sofa and bed as low as possible, you will create that illusion of a much taller space.

Don't be afraid of color

The design rule book tells us to stick to white paint when working with a small space to make it feel and look larger. But unless you have an abundance of natural daylight, this trick might not just work its magic. Low-ceilinged rooms can benefit more from cozy colors; making the space look chic and feel romantic.
