Eric Smidt asking $45 million for Beverly Park compound

Eric Smidt, chairman and CEO of Harbor Freight Tools, put his 11,204-square-foot home in the gated Beverly Park development up for sale for $45 million, reports RealEstalker.

The main Italian-style mansion includes 10 bedrooms and 17 full and one half bathrooms. The estate also includes two guest houses, staff quarters, an octagonal pool house, a conference room and an office complex comprised of three offices. The master suite comes with two bathrooms and two dressing rooms.

The house features a double-story foyer with a vaulted ceiling, while the flooring is done with honey-blond wood. The loft foyer leads to the formal living room with a vaulted ceiling, a marble mantled fireplace, and three wrought iron French doors. The living room boasts eight brocade-upholstered chairs surrounding a round, inlaid marble table.

The photographs in the property listing also show a double-height library with a fireplace, a kitchen with two islands, a large family room and an informal dining space. The home also features a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a luxurious home theater and a private salon.

On the outside, there is a small drive shaded by trees on both sides with gigantic gates opening to a cobblestone motor court ornamented by a central fountain. The landscaped area includes several lawns lined with hedges, expansive terraces, shaded terraces ideal for outdoor entertainment and numerous gardens and fountains. The property includes a meticulously maintained kitchen garden and a citrus grove.

In addition to an infinity pool and a tennis court, the property comes with a nine-car garage and parking spaces that can accommodate more than 30 cars.

According to the report, Smidt and his wife Susan bought the place in two separate deals from different people. The smaller of the two parts was acquired from hockey legend Wayne Gretzky for an undisclosed sum in 1995, while the other lot was purchased in November 1999 for $3,054,545. Since then, the couple has invested a fortune to renovate the property.

The Smidts are selling the place after having moved into another home in Beverly Hills that they acquired in 2005 for $39,352,500.
