NBA News: Isaiah Thomas of the Celtics Goes Mental; The Player Wants to Become Water

First things first, Isaiah Thomas is not crazy or anything, but he wants to do crazy stuff inside the court like what his idols did before him. Playing in the professional league, like the NBA, goes beyond physical toughness and readiness. In order to build up a successful career in this kind of sport, you would likewise need to be mentally sharp and agile.

This kind of thinking is of course being adapted by the Boston Celtics guard, Isaiah Thomas. Thomas on his recent social media post, he twitted that, "Mentality is the difference between GOOD and GREAT! I've been studying those 4 GREAT professionals."

The affirmation of Thomas with regards to the significance of mindset aside from pure skills and talent somehow reechoes the philosophy of the people that he's been trying to study and imitate. In particular Thomas believes on the idea of Bruce Lee about flexibility or being able to adapt on many things. As the famous line of Bruce Lee would state, via masslive, "Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless like water. If you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

Thomas is being humble as he acknowledged the people who went ahead of him and has succeeded in the NBA. Aside from Bruce Lee, Thomas is also trying to learn from former NBA players like Isiah Thomas [Isiah Lord Thomas III], Damon Stoudamire, Gary Payton and Muggsy Bogues. In his own words, Thomas admitted that, "I'm really trying to be one of the greatest little men to ever play. And I know with the help of the guys that did it before me, it's going to make it a little easier."

Indeed being open for some ideas and advices would surely improve your mindset and widen your horizon. With this kind of mindset that this young player is trying to develop, time will come that he too would be the one to be imitated by the younger generations to come, hopefully.
