Pharrell Williams replaces Cee Lo Green as 'The Voice' coach

Pharrell Williams is replacing Cee Lo Green as the new coach of "The Voice" following the latter's exit last month.

NBC made the announcement that the Grammy Award-winning as well as Oscar-nominated rapper and producer will join the seventh season of the singing show on its official Twitter account Monday.

"Okay, we can OFFICIALLY say it! WE ARE SO #HAPPY to announce PHARRELL WILLIAMS = #NewVoiceCoach for SEASON 7," the tweet read.

Forty-year-old Williams, who was a guest mentor to Usher and his team in the fourth season, said he was looking forward to his new assignment, tweeting: "This is going to be so fun."

Mark Burnett, executive producer of the music show, said: "I am thrilled to have Pharrell come back to The Voice family, and this time ... as a coach. Continuing in The Voice tradition of having the biggest and most current music stars as coaches, Pharrell fits perfectly."

Quoting a source, The Hollywood Reporter said the presenters are currently working out schedules for veteran Voice coaches like Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. While Levine and Shelton have been on the coaches panel since the beginning of the show, Aguilera took a break during the past two spring cycles, when Shakira filled her slot.

John de Mol created the show, which is presented by Burnett's One Three Inc., Warner Horizon Television and Talpa Media USA Inc. Mol now also serves as the executive producer of the show along with Burnett, Stijn Bakkers, Audrey Morrissey and Lee Metzger.

Pharrell is currently on a hot streak: Besides winning a Grammy and being nominated for an Oscar, the singer-songwriter-producer-performer released his second album "G I R L" on March 3. In addition, as a part of the Magnificent Six, he and Hans Zimmer recently completed the score for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
