Angelica Huston, Academy Award-winning actress, has recently sold her 12,067-square-foot Venice Beach "fortress" on Windward Avenue, Los Angeles, for $11.15 million, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Local property records show that the five-parcel estate was acquired by Huston's late husband Robert Graham in the mid-1980s. An architect, Graham re-designed and renovated the property, which now features a 3,800-square-foot home, an 11,000-square-foot artist's studio and a Zen garden. Located on the busy Venice Beach, it offers views of the ocean from the top floor of the studio.
According to the listing, the expansive studio, which includes a dance studio and an art studio, is large enough to be transformed into several bedrooms and offices. The home is complete with a number of bedrooms and bathrooms (the listing does not specify the exact number), a chef's kitchen equipped with modern amenities, a breakfast area, dining area, family room, living room with a fireplace, bonus room, media/music room, library, office and a gym. The property is spread over five floors
The exteriors include an infinity pool and a private spa. The home comes with a 10-car garage and its own security and closed-circuit TV systems.
Sixty-two-year-old Huston put the property up for sale for the first time after the death of her husband in May 2010 for $18 million. It later went through a number of price slashes, listing for $13.9 million in September 2012, according to Curbed. It's price finally dropped to $11.9 million, with an unnamed buyer acquiring the property for $11.15 million.
Daniel Pickart of Pardee Properties, who represented the buyer, told The Hollywood Reporter: "The client is an architectural purist who appreciates the buildings the way they are."
He added: "While so many other deals fell through on this listing, we were able to convince the sellers that we needed a longer escrow and time to really go through the complexities of the property. This kind of property could never be built now. It's truly exceptional."
