'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will be rated PG-13.
According to Comic Book Resources, Film Ratings mentioned that the upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is rated PG-13, which was the same rating given to the 2005 Star Wars film "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" with the same rating given by the Film Rating board.
The Classification & Rating Administration (CARA) released the final ratings from the movies they reviewed including "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Based on their tweet last November 24, Tuesday [with an attached "Motion Pictures Rated" photo], the film contains sci-fi action violence making it unsuitable for viewers under PG-13.
That means the young audience should be accompanied with an adult to watch the film during its official release, Hollywood Reporter said.
Based on the report, the PG-13 rating for the film seemed to be appropriate because of the "sci-fi action violence" observed from the entire movie which was also noticed from the previous "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" ten years ago. It was also rated with "sci-fi violence and some intense images."
Of all the "Star Wars" movies, only the two didn't receive the PG rating compared to their previous films. Perhaps, this is because the rating PG-13 was only created in 1984 right after the original trilogy was released.
The upcoming "Star Wars" installment is directed by J.J. Abrams and starred by the veterans Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kanny Baker. The cast also included the newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong-o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premieres this coming December 16 in France, December 17 in the UK, and December 18 in North America.
