'Fleur de Lys’ hits rental market for $40,000 a month after selling for record $102 million

The famous "Fleur de Lys" mansion in Los Angeles is now up for rent for $40,000 a month. The lease offer comes just days after it sold for an astounding $102 million, making it the most expensive sale in L.A. county's history.

Several tabloids reported that billionaire philanthropist Michael Milken was the anonymous buyer but his reps denied the reports.

The security deposit is $1 million for the luxurious mansion, which will be offered to only prequalified tenants, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to Curbed, at 52 percent, Los Angeles has the highest percentage of renters in the United States.

The rental market is red hot (literally), according to Trulia's rental heat maps. Rent in the area averages about $1,688 a month - about 5.9 percent higher than the figures recorded during the recession. According to the Boston Globe, rent has risen 6 percent from 2000 to 2012 and is expected to increase for the fifth straight year in 2014.

"We definitely see demand improving, especially the younger demographic coming out of college and being in their prime renter years. Even though the single-family home market is coming back, it's still somewhat cumbersome to obtain a mortgage and come up with a down payment," Brad Perozzi, managing director of Picerne Group, told The Associated Press.

The Mansion

Located in the upscale Beverly Crest area, The Real Estalker has dubbed the 4.6-acre estate an "unapologetically palatial white elephant." A 600-foot driveway leads up to the front of the giant mansion, which has 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. Inspired by the Vaux-le-Vicomte, a palace on the outskirts of Paris, the home features marble flooring, soaring ceilings, large doorways and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Other than the luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms, the house also has a huge ballroom designed to accommodate 500 people, a duplex wooden library, a music room, a theater and a 3,000-square-foot wine cellar. Outside, the home has sprawling manicured gardens, an infinity pool with a spa, a tennis court and two motor courts. Separate guest and servant quarters are also included.
