Alex Rodriguez, Yankees' slugger, sells Miami Beach condo

Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees' slugger who's appealing a 211-game suspension for his use of performance-enhancing drugs, has unloaded his 1,725-square-foot Miami Beach condo for $2,757,000, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Located at 5875 Collins Avenue, the athlete's condominium includes three bedrooms and three full and one half bathrooms. Built in 2008, the beachfront Mei has been designed to combine a contemporary look with an ancient Asian feel. Rodriguez's unit offers views of the ocean from all the rooms and views of the city skyline from the balconies.

Facilities include a gym, pool and beach valet service.

The website quotes One Sotheby's International Realty's agent Arlene Susy Dunand as saying that Rodriguez, along with his sister, listed the 11th floor unit for $3.2 million in December, but slashed the asking price to $2.99 million later. The sale closed last week.

According to Dunand, 38-year-old Rodriguez, nicknamed "A-Rod," decided to sell the condo, as he is "looking to get something bigger on the beach."

Public records show that Rodriguez purchased the condo for $2.1 million in June of 2013, soon after selling his 21,700-square-foot house on North Bay Road in Miami Beach for $30 million, but hardly lived here. According to an earlier report in the Miami New Times, the baseball player made a $15 million profit from this transaction.

Prior to signing with the New York Yankees, Rodriguez played for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. Rodriguez was one of the most prodigious young players scouts had ever seen and is now considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time. However, Rodriguez has led a highly controversial career due to his expensive contracts and use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs

Currently, Rodriguez is suspended from baseball for the season for allegedly violating the league's drug agreement and labor contract.
