Android users are flooding the Facebook forums with concerns regarding the failure to sync contacts for their phones. Facebook has confirmed that they are no longer supporting contact syncing for the 5.01.1 version of Android, but the social networking service failed to address the question of why the change was made.
One user posted in a Facebook community forum, "Android 5.01.1 just stopped syncing contacts - reinstalled all - turn off and on - steps to sync - states syncing but nothing when you go to display FB contacts, weird thing. When you go to contacts and you can choose where contact came from like device or gmail etc. FB is not there to choose from."
To which, a representative from Facebook, Sofia V, answered, "Unfortunately, this feature is no longer available. If you would like to provide feedback to the product team about this, please visit our Help Center."
Facebook is known for constantly making changes to its services. Following the Android issue is the repair for its iOS app. The social network recently had to repair several iPhone battery drain issues on Facebook app version 42.0. This problem was reportedly due to a CPU spin activity that is left communicating to the application and thus keeping it active and draining the batteries of iOS devices. iOS users were advised to update the app to lower the battery drain issue from their device.
Meanwhile, a report by ZDNet suggests Facebook contact syncing on BlackBerry passport works flawlessly, with all the contact info, up-to-date profile photo, and even the recent activity and Facebook updates all view-able in the Contacts app on the BlackBerry smart phone.
According to the report, BlackBerry passport users can even begin typing the person's name at any time, and their contact details will quickly appear in the handset's universal search utility.
