‘Attack on Titan’ Game Update: Screenshots Reveal Unique Gameplay With Levi and Hanji, New Stages Showcased

New "Attack On Titan" screenshots have revealed a unique gameplay with some of the game's popular playable characters such as Levi and Hanji. The screenshots also showed off the game's new stages and attacks and it actually "exhibits the traditional cel-shaded style of Koei Tecmo 's Warriors series of games," a  report from iDigital Times said on Monday.

According to the report, the game's producer Hisashi Koinuma has pointed out that the new "Attack On Titan" Warriors series will have more humans that will fight against their enemy-Titan.

"Think of it as an action game set in the Attack on Titan world where players can move about freely. It won't be something where you simply defeat an enemy to progress the story, but rather the base is an action game and within that you can understand the original story," Koinuma said as quoted in the report.

Listed below are some of the game details expected to be featured in the new "Attack on Titan" as reported by iDigital Times.

  • Roofs will be accessible to the player, but because the environment is heavily destructible, Titans may wreck any place you try to hide.
  • Some battles take place outside the walls, with missions where you have to capture Titans rather than kill them. If you've watched the anime, this should be familiar ground.
  • Outside the Wall, you can't use 3D Maneuver Gear, so the gameplay will also have portions on horseback.
  • At the supply camp outside the wall, you can check your gear, modify weapons, prepare for your next departure, and have conversations. You can also play new chapters by interacting with key characters here.
  • New stages include "Rural Area" and "Ruined City."

"While the game is slated for release in the West in 2016, and in Japan this Winter-technically, "this Winter" can mean as late as March, 2016-the game is apparently still far from perfect. The action part of the game has been remade from scratch three times already, and even in its current form, there are still people at Koei Tecmo who say it's still not right," Kotaku said.

"Development on the story, additional challenges, and game system are going smoothly, so once the action part solidifies, I believe we'll be much closer to completion. We're making a new action game that's not a Warriors game, so the development team is working quite hard," Koinuma stated.
