Vice president and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, has recently launched Dubai's Clean Energy Strategy for 2050. One of the ruler's goals is to promote the use of renewable energy as a source of power in the city. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy aims to make the Emirate a global center for green energy and economy.

He also mentioned the plans for the new free zone called the Dubai Green Zone during the inauguration of the second phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. The zone was planned to attract research and development centres and emerging companies in clean energy, the article on the National revealed.

The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy aims to provide 7 percent of Dubai's energy from clean energy sources by 2020. It will increase this target to 25 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2050.

The solar park is considered one of the largest utility-scale solar projects. The second phase of project construction has just been completed.

The first phase of the project was completed in 2013 at Tempe, Arizona, by the First Solar developer. The second phase will come online in 2017 with an installed capacity of megawatts (MW). The third phase, on the other hand, is expected to be finish by 2020 with an added 200 MW giving a total capacity of 1,000 MW. The final stage is scheduled for completion in 2030 with a total installed capacity from 1,000 MW to 5,000 MW.

Dubai's new energy strategy also aims to invest $27 billion for the establishment of the Dubai Green Fund. The fund will provide a low -- interest financing on clean energy projects in the city. It also aims to make Dubai city as a hub of clean energy technologies for Global research and development.

Shaikh Mohammad told Forbes that they aim to explore the future of the energy sector to make use of the scientific and technological development in this sector. Moreover, the development of the new energy strategy will take the lead in the development and establishment of a sustainable energy conservation to support economic growth while keeping the environment and natural resources safe.
