Prince ‘The Purple One’ selling not-so-purple Spain Villa for $7.7 million

Musician Prince, also known as "The Purple One" is selling his villa in Marbella, Spain, for $7.7 million.

Prince purchased the marvelous mansion as a gift for his first wife, Mayte Garcia in 1988. However, the couple rarely lived in the place. In fact, Prince hasn't visited the home since Mayte and he split in 1999. However, Mayte has used it on weekends, reportsCurbed.

Prince got his moniker "the Purple One" after his album "Purple Rain" became a major hit. He also loves the color. His first home in Minnesota was painted completely in the color and was called the "Purple House." Apparently, his father lived in the house but it was razed down in 2003.

In 2006, his obsession with the color gained him more notoriety after a landlord filed a lawsuit against him for violating the lease agreement. Prince had painted purple stripes all over the house and also installed purple monogrammed carpeting in the home!

The fact that the "purple-loving" pop crooner spent so less time in the home might explain why the house isn't done up completely in the color.

Listing records of the home state that the mansion spans an area of 63,507 square feet and is comprised of six bedrooms and six bathrooms. Listing photos of the home show posh interiors with high-cathedral ceilings, French windows, open, airy spaces and marble flooring. The dining room looks like a scene straight out of the sets of "the Great Gatsby."

Outside, the home has sprawling manicured gardens and a pool with fountain features.

The listing describes the home as, "one of the most privileged residences in Marbella, the Villa bursts with charm and character and is unquestionably unique not only in terms of the architectural style and location but also its history, with the added value of being a former celebrity home, the flamboyant music legend Prince, who originally acquired it in 1998 as a wedding gift for his then wife, and was the inspiring scenario for many of his beautiful songs."

According to the Real Estalker, a large portion of Prince's real estate portfolio is concentrated in Minnesota, his hometown. Prince has never really revealed why he loves purple so much but some speculate that he associates with it because it is the color of royalty and also because he is a huge Minnesota Vikings (NFL) fan.
