Stephen Gaghan, the directorial mastermind behind blockbuster movies like "Traffic" and "Havoc", has reportedly listed his home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, for $4.9 million.
Gaghan and his wife Minnie Mortimer purchased the residence for $4.4 million in 2008. They bought the house a year after they got married. Mortimer, who is a famous fashion designer, gave the home interiors a completely chic Mediterranean look, which contrasted with the house's Nantucket-style architecture, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The 5,276-square-foot home has five bedrooms and six bathrooms spread across two floors. Interiors of the home feature hardwood flooring, beamed ceilings and French windows and glass doors. A large balcony on the second floor offers panoramic views of the city.
Located on a one-plus acre lot, the house has a separate detached guest house. There is a manicured garden and pool with an attached spa and a two-car garage as well.
The listing describes the place as, "A property that combines a prime location with spectacular panoramic city, mountain and ocean views graciously situated on a huge acre+ lot with an array of amenities one can usually only dream about."
Gaghan moved to Los Angeles before he married Mortimer. But when he first came to the city, life wasn't very easy.
"When I moved to Los Angeles, I wrote spec screenplays. I was really poor, and I thought I was just gonna do this for a while to make a little money so I could write novels. I thought movies were a second-class art form. I condescended to it-I didn't know enough to know it was really gonna be hard," Gagahan said in an interview for Tim Grierson's book "Film Craft: Screenwriting."
Before moving to Los Angeles Gaghan lived in New York City. However, after "Traffic", life started to smile upon the talented director. He met Mortimer at the 2006 pre-Oscars picnic that Diane Von Furstenberg and Barry Diller threw in L.A. The two struck a chord at the meeting and became friends. Gaghan shifted to Malibu in course and Mortimer would come over to learn to surf.
They were in Biarritz, France, when Gaghan proposed to her. Recalling the day he asked Mortimer to marry him, Gaghan told theNew York Times:
"It was incredibly cloudy. Then the clouds dumped two-inch raindrops, and the silver raindrops are backlit. And Minnie drops into a wave and disappears - the biggest wave of the day. She pops up surfing this wave, just flying, with incredible courage. Then she's standing in the sand, holding her board, and behind her, from one end of France to the other, this rainbow appears. "
