Police authorities from Connecticut and Daytona have been flooded with calls from Facebook users after a woman named Katie Brown posted a photo on Facebook last Friday showing a dog with its mouth taped shut with duct tape. However, both local police authorities are still unable to locate the said social media user.
The snap of the dog which appeared to be a chocolate Labrador was captioned by the Facebook user with the message, "This is what happens when you don't shut up!" The post went viral and was shared over 400,000 times.
According to an artile on Buzzfeed.com, enraged users scanned through Brown's profile and discovered that she resided at times in both South Daytona, Florida, and Avon, Connecticut, which is why they immediately alerted the local law enforcement in both areas.
According to a post published by the South Daytona Police Department on Facebook last Sunday, a relative of Brown's confirmed that she no longer lives in the state. The abuser has already changed her residency for nearly two years despite her Facebook profile showing that she is located in South Daytona.
"This appears to have occured in Avon, CT, where she currently lives, although the address posted by many people is not her current address. SDPD investigator is turning this case over to Avon authories... Let's hope this gets resolved quickly," SDPD wrote. Police authorities from Avon reported that Brown doesn't live in their town either.
Additionally, in an interview with NBC Connecticut, South Daytona Police Lt. Dan Dietrich revealed that they were able to talk to Brown's son. Her son told the authorities that her real name is Katharine F. Lemansky and may be on her way back to Florida from Connecticut.
Although both police departments failed to locate the alleged animal abuser, Facebook users are trying to attain justice in a different way. As of the moment, there is a Change.org petition that calls for Brown to be prosecuted. It now has over 30,000 signatures.
