Orlando Bloom, the "Troy" actor has sold his home in Hollywood Hills for $3.9 million in an off-market sale. This is the same property that was targeted and robbed by the "Bling Ring", a small group of teenagers in 2009.
Bloom purchased the home for $2.7 million in 2007. It was burgled by a group of teenagers who stole expensive clothes, jewelry and also swept away a lot of money in 2009. All of them were nabbed and put in jail.
Rachel Lee, the leader of the group was released on parole for good behavior. Apparently, she had broken into Bloom's house to get her hands on some of Victoria's Secret clothes that Bloom's then-live-in-girlfriend Miranda Kerr had, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Bloom was later approached for a cameo in the movie. However he declined saying, "It was too close to home for me to want to be involved."
Bloom put the home up for rent and soon found a tenant who paid $16,500 a month for the residence. However, the residence hit the sale block in October 2013 with an asking price of $4.5 million. It was given a price chop at $3.9 million soon before being hauled off the market.
The residence is a 3,248-square-foot, single-family home sitting in a private, gated compound. The home is comprised of four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Interiors of the home feature high vaulted ceilings, wooden doors, windows and glass floor-to-ceiling walls. One interesting feature about the house is that it is completely painted black on the outside. According to Zillow, one "Bling Ring" investigating officer referred to the house as a "bat cave"
Outside, the home has a swimming pool and a lot of recreation space. After the burglary, Bloom apparently upped the protection and fitted the house with state-of-the-art security systems.
Earlier this month Bloom was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In an interview with The Independent, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star revealed his excitement:
"It's the beginning of a second chapter, something different, something new. I have new responsibilities in my life as a father, and I look at my career and can't wait for new opportunities. I'm looking at doing things that challenge me."
