Great news, "Supergirl" fans! It is official. The hit television show has been picked up for a full season by CBS.
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, stars in "Supergirl." She escaped Krypton amid its destruction years ago and landed on Earth. She's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. At 24, she finally acknowledges who she really is and use her superhuman abilities to be the hero she was born to be.
"Supergirl will have a total of 20 episodes as CBS ordered another seven. Hollywood Reporter notes that although it short than the normal 22 epidose, the freshman drama debuted a month later than most other new fall offerings. It addition, it requires more special effects than your average series. This is the only he only comic book-inspired series on the network's roster.
Entertainment Weekly reports that according to CBS, the freshman show currently averages 11.24 million viewers with a 2.8 in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic, a year-over-year uptick of 46 percent in total viewers and 40 percent for the demo for the same time period.
Other CBS series that received additional eposides are "Limitless," "Life in Pieces" and "Code Black."
In related news, a rumor surfaced, following the crossover of "Arrow" and "The Flash" that there would also be one for "TheFlash" and "Supergirl." The speculation is that Kara might be visited by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).
Comic Book Resources reports that executive producer Greg Berlanti was asked about this and he doused such rumor. Berlanti told the gathered press, including CBR News, "No, only because we just received the pick up. Not at this point." Berlandi is the same man behind "The Flash" and "Arrow." Ali Adler, along with Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are the ones with him behind "Supergirl."
"Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
