Andy Murray Gives Britain First Davis Cup Title, Aims to Win Aussie Open Next

After 79 years, Andy Murray gave Great Britain its first Davis Cup title. On the fourth match of the series held in Belgium last November 29, 2015, the world's top two tennis player triumphed against Belgium's David Goffin by scoring an unassailable 3-1.

Beause of this huge victory, calls for Murray's knighthood began to surface. Last Saturday, Lord Alan Sugar tweeted, "Well done @andy_murray I am suggesting to the PM to award you with a Knighthood #sirandy," an article on the Daily Mail revealed.

According to betting entity Coral, Murray's knighthood is not an impossibility. They predict that the tennis star has 6 out of 4 chances to become Sir Andy Murray in 2016.

Despite the numerous calls, Murray remains focused on the game. In an interview with BBC Sports, he considers his victory a "springboard" for other large titles, particularly the Australian Open tournament. So far, the 28-year-old Scotsman has reached the said tournament's finals for four times.

"Hopefully, I can use this Davis Cup win as a springboard for next year, to take on the attitude I had in every point and maybe get my first Aussie Open in January," he shared.

Sports critics point out that Murray played some of his best tennis during the series. Goffin is also an equally skilled tennis player who refused to buckle. On the third set, Murray wobbled briefly but gained eventually gained his momentum and finished off the match by lobing over Goffin. After defeating his opponent, Murray collapsed on to the court with his hands clutching his face in disbelief.

Murray admitted, "It's obviously an amazing feeling. I imagine it will take a few days before it really sinks in. I probably haven't been as emotional as that after a match that I've won."

Aside from the Aussie Open, Murray is also determined to win the French Open. But to bring home the victory, he has to secure a victory on the fifth set of the semi-finals with Novak Djokovic.
