In a recent ESPN blog, General Manager Jed Hoyer says that the Chicago Cubs "isn't close to making a big move" but expresses confidence that the team will show some series action in the next two weeks, especially in the winter meetings in Nashville.
"Over the next two weeks, there will be a lot of activity," ESPN quotes what Hoyer said last Monday. "I expect as the market picks up, we'll be part of that market."
Meanwhile, pitcher Jordan Zimmermann reported has just signed a contract with the team.
On the other hand, the Cubs is also about to make a big move in real estate. Just recently, according to Bisnow, the Cubs has revealed a rendering of a new Wrigley Field front and the surrounding area. The ball club is said to have started the second winter of renovations to the area and the Cubs hope that this would have a positive effect to their baseball record.
According to Bisnow, on the rendered image of the new plaza, it appears that the Wrigley Field marquee above the ballpark's main entrance at Clark and Addison will be looking better than ever after the renovations. The said landmark was removed earlier for restorations and so the construction crew can move forward with renovations to the ballpark's front. DNA Info has also reported that the steel frame that will become the Cubs' new office building has already been laid.
The plans for the ballclub includes a modern clubhouse ready for Opening Day which the developers hope to be ready by Opening Day. The plaza at Addison and Sheffield should also be rebuilt. The Cubs hope that this new plaza will become the neighborhood's choice for special gatherings and events. The Cubs is reportedly spending more or less $575 million on this renovation project.
