The Met Gala on Tuesday, May 6, was a celeb-studded event, where all the tinsel town people came to pay tribute to Charles James, the British-born fashion designer who bought couture to America. While everyone was busy admiring what the celebrities wore at the event, Realtytoday decided to take a look at the marvelous venue itself.
The Metropolitan Museum of Arts
The Metropolitan Museum of Arts is located at 1000 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, and is one of the oldest and most significant structures of the country. Founded on April 13, 1870, the museum hosts several art, culture and entertainment events. It occupies about 2 million square feet of space and has several departments dedicated to art and culture.
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event that is held for the benefit of The Costume Institute department, which has more than 35,000 accessories and costumes. The Met Gala has a theme for the event every year dedicated to fashion moguls and designers and this year's theme was "White Ties and Decorations," a tribute to Charles James.
James' specialty was flowing ball gowns, tuxedoes and coattails and the venue tried to recreate an atmosphere suited to his style. Check out some photos below:
