It looks like the title as the world's tallest building for Dubai's Burj Khalifa will soon to be snatched by Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Tower. Burj Khalifa holds the title as the tallest building in the world. But its engineers and architects are now planning to build another project in Saudi Arabia that will overtake the previous building.
The next building will be known as the Jeddah or Kingdom Tower. Jeddah Tower will rise at least 3,280 feet, which is equivalent to 1 kilometer, making it the tallest building in the world and the first to reach a full kilometer into the air.
According to a report from Huffingtonpost, the Saudi government will fund the new project for $2.2 billion including the tower. Jeddah or Kingdom Tower is expected to accommodate the world's highest observatory with a gross floor area of 245,000 square meters. The building will have offices, a 200-room Four Seasons Hotel, 121 serviced apartments and 360 residential apartments.
The said tower will be designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill. The construction from the ground floor to the 26th floor has already been completed. The work will continue until they reach the 200 floors of the building. Smith told the Guardian, the building will overlook the Red Sea and will apply the design language from the Burj Khalifa.
"Its specific form comes more from the image of a new palm about to spread its fronds," Smith told The Guardian.
Chief executive officer of Jeddah Economic Company, Mounib Hammoud, said that the overall layout of the tower is designed to accommodate a comprehensive, multipurpose environment, with a mix of modern lifestyle supported by world-class and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Hammoud also added that each tower's three sides will have a series of notches which produces pockets of shadows to shield some areas from the sun and provide a better view of Jeddah and the Red Sea.
