Years ago laptop devices are some of the most expensive gadgets one can own. In fact, it was really hard to get a laptop less than $500 that does not have limited features. But luckily as technology progresses, laptops become less pricey, and despite the affordability, their internals are still good.
One great laptop that comes to mind when talking about affordability is the new "HP Pavilion x2". It is a laptop that can transform into a tablet simply by detaching the screen from its keyboard. It comes in at just $299 but this 10 inch device uses a moderately powerful processor (Intel Atom) with a year of Office 365 and OneDrive storage.
Design-wise, HP may have done a really good job with the "HP Pavilion x2". The tablet part of the device is thicker and heavier than its keyboard part which may make the thing prone to tipping over backwards, but by designing it to rest on it cylindrical hinge, the screen weight is better distributed. TechRadar even compared the HP Pavilion x2's keyboard to that of the "Surface Pro 4's", saying that the ergonomic angle of HP's keyboard allows the force of your fingers to be absorbed when you hit the keys.
However, the tiny keyboard that comes with miniature laptops may not offer the most comfortable experience to most users. HP Pavilion x2's keyboard has a surface area that is considerably diminished. This simply means that if you don't have small hands, you gotta deal with typos more often than you would with a regularly sized laptop. Fortunately, the trackpad doesn't bring in negative news, as it is surprisingly wide. In fact, the track pad takes up the entire space under the keyboard. It does a great job in moving cursor, but in multi touch commands, not really.
Furthermore, the "HP Pavilion x2" may be a bit heavy for a 10 inch notebook, but for a convertible, it is actually even lighter than others. For the overall specs, the "HP Pavilion x2" uses Intel HD Graphics, has 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 micro HDMI, 1 headphone/mic jack, and a microSD reader. It also has a front facing HP TrueVision HD Webcam with mic. The lowest version of the device, as mentioned above is at $299. But you have to drop $350 all in all if you wan to bump up your storage to 64 GB. Although it's already bad news that the "HP Pavilion x2" is stuck at 2 GB RAM even at a higher price, it can be compensated a bit by the free 60 Skype minutes alongside the Office 365 and 1 TB OneDrive cloud storage.
As a conclusion, the "HP Pavilion x2" may not be your ultimate gaming device, it may not even be the best as an intense photo editor, but the whole device is a very convenient gadget for web browsing and streaming. The long battery life is also good news (7 hours 34 minutes). Overall, with a $299 price tag, the "HP Pavilion x2" is a pretty good deal.
