"The Vampire Diaries" is reportedly in danger of being cancelled from The CW by the end of Season 7.
According to E News, the once hit series was recently bumped off from its usual Thursday night timeslot. This move was done to accommodate the network's new show, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
Additionally, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 was removed from its Thursday schedule because of its low ratings. On Thursday nights, CBS hit "The Big Bang Theory" Season 9 and ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 also airs at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that the show will be cancelled because it has already been moved to a Friday timeslot. The said day is known for being a death sentence for shows.
One fan @mopar1 wrote, "Friday nights used to be death sentence for most shows. Though now there are good shows on Fridays that do well. I hope this is not the case for 'Vampire Diaries' and 'Originals.' Overall, I absolutely hate when networks shuffle their lineups."
In other news, there are some reports that Nina Dobrev already had an idea that the series will be cancelled, that's why she left after Season 6. According to Movie News Guide, Dobrev also knew that her exit from the series will have a major impact on the show.
Just recently, "The Vampire Diaries" aired its eighth episode for the season, which garnered the lowest ratings in the show's history. Dobrev also confirmed that she will no longer return to the show to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert. However, executive producer Julie Plec said that Dobrev once told her that she will be open to returning to the series but only for the series finale.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 is currently on hiatus. The series will return to The CW on Dec. 10 for its ninth episode, "Cold As Ice."
