'Mad Max: Fury Road' Crowned Best Film of 2015 by National Board of Review

National Board of Review has finally declared this year's best movie and it surprisingly awarded the award to action adventure "Mad Max: Fury Road."

According to reuters.com, it was a surprise that the New York- based award giving body to choose the film. The board usually initiates the award giving season in the Hollywood. 

Matt Damon won Best Actor award and Ridley Scott snagged Best Director award for their space drama film, "The Martian." 

Other films that are vying for Oscar awards failed to be included in the list. Some of those films were, "Steve Jobs," "Joy," and "Brooklyn." 

It was noted that the board went for unusual choices of films to be included in the list. Among the top films of the year were  "Creed," "Straight Outta Compton," "Spotlight" and "Room." 

Despite of being yet- to- be- released, Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" already received positive review as it's also included in best- of- the- year list and the award of Best Screenplay. 

Board of Review President Annie Schulhof said "2015 has been a banner year for popular cinema. We are thrilled to be awarding George Miller and Ridley Scott, two iconic filmmakers at the top of their game, while also celebrating the next generation of talent." 

Though it's a surprise and unusual choice of best movie of year, people should be paying attention as to why NBR chose the film for the award. 

According to time.com, "Mad Max: Fury Road" was a feminist film where its heroine Imperator Furiosa, which is played by Charlize Theron, is far from a Hollywood film cliché of damsel in distress. She leads a group that consists of women wanting to have a better world. 

Also, most movie critics think action, special effects- filled movies are not that worthy for a high recognition such of Oscars. NBR is best known for looking past the genre of a film for choosing its best film tey deemed worthy of receiving the appreciation.
