Lionel Richie is obviously a big fan of Adele's "Hello" and recently, the 66-year-old Grammy awardee even hinted about a possible collaboration with the younger artist. Apparently, Richie had a hit single with the same title which became a huge success in the early '80s.
During the TOWN Residential Art Basel kick-off event held at the Versace Mansion, E! News managed to interview the retired artist who openly talked about future plans with Adele and how he felt about her song "Hello".
He revealed, "We are going to be doing something together -- that's already almost in the works... I can almost say that we are talking, but right now she has a mission. Her mission is to get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won't happen just yet. She is committed to that."
He also related how people approached him about Adele's new song. Richie said. "Someone said to me, 'Lionel, Adele did 'Hello' and I said, 'Retirement. I am done'... Then, all of a sudden I realized this is not 'Hello.' She just used 'Hello.'"
However, Richie expressed that he has no hard feelings for Adele. He doesn't seem to mind that she used the same title for her song. As a matter of fact, he was happy that they came up with the same idea.
"You have no idea how many people called me on the phone and said, 'Are you going to let her get away with that? She stole 'Hello!' Then I said I don't own 'Hello.' I own the melody," Richie clarified. "But, what it did was it blew everything to the ceiling. The conversation came up. If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele... that's the best pairing you could have!"
When asked if he is going to make an appearance on Adele's 2016 tour, Richie joked that they'd probably throw him out.
