How do you do a follow up to a global smash hit? There's really no formula, but you just have to hope that it brings as much success as your previous hits.
Korean superstar Psy is set to release his new album called 'Chiljip PSY-Da,' which translates to "This is PSY's Seventh Album," before this year ends.
Psy has reached global popularity with his song "Gangnam Style" which set a record in YouTube as the most viewed video that has around 2.5 billion views now. After the success of "Gangnam Style," his follow up hit "Gentleman" also received international success with almost 900 million views.
The Korean superstar just recently released his music video for his song called "Daddy" with 2NE1's CL, and it has garnered almost 18 million views in just two days. The music video is odd as always, but its catchy and upbeat tunes are hard to resist.
"There were many thoughts going around in my head, including thoughts like, 'If I write like this, it would be not as good as Gangnam Style,' and 'If I write like this, the international audience will not understand,' so it took me a very long time to organize all those thoughts into one," PSY said in an interview in Seoul, Korea.
As reported by Billboard, he said, "Because this is an album that retains my continued desire as a lyric writer who wants to try things other than love songs in a movie-like way, there are several genres." According to Psy, he wanted to put a lot of different emotions in his album, including happiness, anger, sadness, joy, love, hatred and greed, in which he was able to do in his previous albums as well.
The new album also features collaborations with artists like CL of 2NE1, Will.I.Am, and Ed Sheeran.
