Home and Design Trends for 2016

New Year is a great opportunity to revamp your home. If you want to start early with re-decorating your nest, consider the following 2016 home design styles from Domain.

One of the trends in 2016 is 'going green.' A lot of people are more aware that we have to protect our environment, and one way of supporting this advocacy is to lend your home to greenery. If you are living in the city, it might be a little difficult for you to plant your own seedlings but Emir Lopez from Fluid Growers say portable garden can now be grown in our own kitchens.

According to interior designer Emma Blomfield, metallic tones will be a hit in 2016. "From acid wash metallic cow hide rugs to brass cylindrical vases for your flowers through to brushed brass side tables, there aren't many homewares or interiors products that don't work well in metallic tones," she shares. She adds that these tones could serve as the 'jewelry' at home.

For the bathroom, design and selections specialist Scott Beechey says that timber tops would be the trend this year because of its organic feel. Bathtubs are no longer an imperative since people have realized that they do not really use their tubs as much, and they just consume space. Toilets on the other hand are given so much attention, as they come in 'smarter' variations now. There are options for automated flush after you have used it, a self-deodorizing feature, and even customized wash settings.

When it comes to color trends for next year, Dulux predicts 4 different color schemes. The first one imitates natural and living matter so it's composed of flesh earthy tones and soft greens. Another integrates the iconic elements across mid to late century; vibrant colors paired with browns and olive greens. The third one is inspired by celestial bodies lighting up the infinite space; darker colors joined by bright reds, pinks and metallic hues.  The last color scheme fuses modern palettes with the old; deep hues are modernized by mustard, pink and purple.
