'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Cast Carrie Fisher Told To Shed Off Weight Prior To Filming

The iconic Carrie Fisher recently spoke out about how she was pressured to lose 35 pounds before she started filming for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" by the staff. She is reprising her role as Princess Leia after 35 years in the new Star Wars installment.

Although she did lose the weight, she says in an interview with Good Housekeeping via Celeb Dirty Laundry that "I'm in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that's how easy it is.'"

Fisher, however, disclosed that she lost the weight through exercise and by eating healthily. She also shared that she had a harder time being on a diet compared to working out since it's easier for her to add something to her routine rather than cutting some things back. This candor from the 59-year-old actress isn't surprising, as she is known to always speak her mind regarding any issue. She did clarify that she wanted to lose the weight for her own sake, and not just for her role reprisal.

It is truly a great time for the actress, as she was hailed as an "Ultimate Icon" at the recently concluded Cosmpolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards. The Irish Examiner reports that some of the other women who were aptly honored were Rebel Wilson, Caroline Flack, and Katie Cutler.

The much awaited "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premieres on December 14 in European nations, and on the 18th in the United States. The J.J. Abrams-directed film is expected to be the biggest for 2015, as pre-ordering for tickets started as early as October. It has already recorded over a staggering $50 million in advanced sales.

Harrison Ford is also reprising his role as Han Solo, and other favorite characters like Chewbacca, R2D2, and C-3PO will once again grace the silver screen.
