Last December 2, Sandra Bullock revealed that she welcomed another child into her small family. This time, the actress opted to adopt a 3-year-old girl named Laila. Following this heart-warming revelation, she also confessed that the idea wasn't entirely hers. According to Bullock, her son Louis 'spearheaded' the adoption.
Bullock told People magazine, "Louis spearheaded this whole journey. I did remind him that it could be either a brother or a sister that we would be so lucky to have either one. He did specify that he wanted a sibling who has some brown skin."
The actress narrated, "When Laila finally came to us and we were getting visits from CPS, there was an afternoon when we were outside and Louis saw their car pull up and he ran next to Laila and asked the CPS workers why they were there. They replied that they were there to see if Laila was okay. He replied, 'You're not going to take her away, are you?' And at that moment, I knew I could stop worrying about whether I had found the right match... It was obvious I had."
Bullock went on to explain that there is no doubt in her mind that Laila was supposed to be with her and her 5-year-old son. She said, "I can tell you, absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time."
While processing Laila's adoption, Bullock encountered several issues with protecting her daughter's privacy. She described the whole process as "very much like witness protection." The actress was especially careful because she feared that the process would be jeopardized by her stardom.
She related that a photographer followed her while she was in the line. The next day, she learned that her photos were being sold all over the world. Disgruntled, Bullock found herself "chasing down lawyers -- having them begging them to keep her (Laila) safe."
