"Arrow" season 4 episode 8 gets a great review from its critics. Also, it has been noted that "Legends of Yesterday" scores highest ratings since 2014's crossover.
TV Fanatic says that the intent of the crossover got derailed. If remembered, the purpose of which is to lay the foundation of "Legends of Tomorrow." But then, it can't be denied that the main event of the "Arrow" season 4 episode 8 is still about Oliver and Felicity plus Oliver's son.
It is so obvious that in the 2nd part of the "The Flash" and "Arrow" Crossover, Barry needed to turn back time because of Oliver. Oliver's head was not in the game so to speak. His disturbed over the fact that he has a son but could not introduced himself as the father, and to top it all, he's affected by Felicity's reaction when she found out that he's hiding the truth from her.
But that was just it. Overall, "Legends of Tomorrow" was really good stuff and a solid finish of crossover episodes of "The Flash" and "Arrow." If it is necessary to say, this installment has fully utilized team flash and team arrow, highlighted "how wonderfully in sync their world is now."
If Barry had to turn back time, it is for one implied purpose of teaching viewers a lesson. In fact, it's the most effective and tragic scene of episode 8. Things were meant to go "horribly wrong." Everyone died and everything had been wiped out. All because Oliver's personal life had influenced his actions which rippled into a horrifying tragedy. Viewers must have gotten that point.
