It was a wild year for Lady Gaga. Having a downtime after her album "Artpop" didn't really appeal to the audience, so Gaga started to strategize on her career path.
The pop star was recently awarded 2015's Billboard Woman of the Year, and it's no wonder why. After a spectacular performance of the "Sound of Music" medley in the Academy Awards, a new working relationship with the legendary Tony Bennett, a new TV show, and a fiance, Gaga's roller-coaster ride is just starting, and it gets better everytime.
Billboard interviewed Gaga for their magazine and it revealed details about the artist that most people didn't see before.
Gaga mentioned that she'll be 30 in March and that she already accepted the fact that she's older. She said, "Why is it that we’re disposing of people once they pass that mark? It’s suddenly, ‘You’re an old woman.’ I’m not f---ing old. I’m more sexual and powerful and intelligent and on my s--t than I’ve ever been." She also said that after all the things that she experienced, it made her a fighter.
She also mentioned that her collaboration with Tony Bennett taught her a lot in being a true artist. "There is nobody more badass than Tony Bennett. That man is a part of the history of music in a way that is extremely powerful, and he taught me to stay true to who I am, to not let anybody exploit me." People were also thankful for Gaga for exposing Bennett to a younger audience.
Having failed with her album "Artpop," Gaga told the magazine that she was expected to sell records and to stay on top, but that she didn't want that kind of approach in her creative process. She said, "People think, ‘You can just sit down at a piano whenever you want and write,’ but I couldn’t write for two f---ing years. For Artpop, I was doing beats instead. I didn’t want to be near that damn [piano]. It was too emotional. I would start to play and sing, and my mind would go, ‘You are way too talented for this shit. F---, your voice sounds good. F---, that’s a beautiful chord. F---, that’s an amazing lyric."
As far as being true, Gaga has proven that you have to break the standards if you want to be true to yourself. People might not understand what she's all about, but that is how she expresses herself and that is her artistry.
