After the confirmation of Patti LuPone's return to the series, there are speculations that a mythical character will be appearing because of her character's presence.
After LuPone's portrayal of Joan Clayton in the previous season of "Penny Dreadful," she has now been confirmed to be back on the show for Season 3, and this time she will play the role of Vanessa Ives' (Eva Green) therapist named Dr. Seward. It was earlier reported by Christian Post that Dr. Seward will be using unconventional ways to help Vanessa in her problems.
New set photos reveal Dr. Seward comforting Vanessa in what looks like a padded cell. Because of this, many speculate that Vanessa will be admitted in an asylum. Master Herald also reports that many literary fans have associated LuPone's character to Bram Stoker's novel, "Dracula."
With this, many fans think that the iconic vampire might be making an appearance in the show. It was also speculated that Dr. Seward might also have a connection with Sir Malcom Murray (Timothy Dalton) and his dead daughter Mina (Olivia Llewellyn).
However, in Stoker's novel, Dr. Seward was played by a male character who was also a head psychiatrist in an asylum who is also working for Dracula. However, all of these are only speculations, and the showrunner and producers of the show have yet to make a statement on the matter.
In other news, Showtime has confirmed that "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 will have a total of nine episodes. It was also earlier reported that Wes Studi was added as a series regular and will play Sir Malcom's new Native American ally, who will also have a deep connection with Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett).
As of writing, Showtime has not released the official premiere date for "Penny Dreadful" Season 3, but it is expected to return sometime next year.
