Comparison between players has been almost an implicit tradition in the NBA. There have been many comparisons in the past and most especially in the present. Now that the regular season has gone beyond testing the waters, comments about players, especially rookie players now abound.
These comments and reactions from experts and fans alike did not exempt the young Latvian player of the Knicks. With his noteworthy and highlight performances in the hard court, the rookie player has captivated the imagination of almost everyone. His ability to play the game and capacity to be someone greater than what was first expected from him even lead Carmelo Anthony to declare Kristaps Porzingis "as the Knicks franchise player after he retires," reported yibada.
Such presumption might just be a start of the many comments and praises for Porzingis. Even right after such praise or better yet challenge, Jose Calderon, Pau Gasol's teammate in the Spanish national team, suggested that Porzingis may be better than Pau Gasol. Calderon via yibada stated that;
"The surprise is he's doing it right away," Calderon said. "He's been pretty consistent. That's what surprises me the most; he's putting up big numbers now. Nobody expected that. If I'm not mistaken it took Pau a little bit longer to get those big numbers," Calderon added. "But also remember, Pau was the Rookie of the Year. Let's see where we are at the end of the year. But this is a good start."
However, it is still undeniable that Pau Gasol has the upper hand, for it would take much experience for the young rookie player to achieve and learn what the veteran Spanish player had acquired while playing in the NBA. But this does not disqualify Porzingis from giving out his best and even out winning the veteran player in the process. There is really something in Porzingis that worth watching and developing, and this perhaps is one the reason why Phil Jackson has personally handpicked this rookie player, like what he did with the great players who went ahead Porzingis.
