Xbox One Elite Controller News: Microsoft Apologizes for Limited Stocks; 'Elite' Available This Week?

Clearly, Xbox did not expect thousands of people to rave about their newest controller this much.

Xbox Head of Games and Entertainment Division Phil Spencer admitted recently that the company had not foreseen that the $150 Xbox One Elite would be so in demand. In a Twitter exchange with Xbox fans, he shares that the market for the controller has exceeded the original planning and that they are currently working on its supply. He has also extended his apologies because he knows the product is very difficult to find.

Microsoft announced as early as the first week of November that stocks might be limited through a single month. Right now, most of the major tech stores including Amazon, GameStop and even Microsoft's own store have run out of supply just a few weeks after the coveted controller had been launched.

Despite its relatively expensive price, gamers still want to buy Elite, and they are directly asking Spencer for stocks. One Xbox fan inquired if the control would be available by Christmas, but Spencer did not want to give any guarantees. "It's tough, as I don't want to over-promise. Demand has just exceeded our planning. If you find one and you want it, pick it up, sorry," he explained.

Last weekend, a rumor circulated that Elite would be available again in Best Buy stores this week. This was allegedly from an anonymous employee of the said store who posted the tip on reddit. According to the post, the new stocks of the controller would arrive this week and that around 10 units would be delivered to most Best Buy branches. This has not been confirmed by Microsoft Xbox.

Xbox One Elite controller is known for its 'elite' features including a soft touch plastic exterior, interchangeable rear buttons, hair trigger locks and customizable button and paddle mapping.
