It was one frightening night and it seems, nothing is safe these days, especially luxury homes owned by prominent personalities.
Simon Cowell had a scare when his home was burgled and he thought his son, Eric, had been taken.
The mogul's £10million London home had been broken into early Friday, 2:20 a.m, says Daily Mail. He learned about it when he was awakened by his bodyguard. Simon and his partner, Lauren Silverman, rushed to the baby's room. Some sentimental valuables were taken and there also some cash in the safe, approximately £500,000 in total.
The "X Factor" boss said someone was at their home and it was frigthening enough but he was glad that no one was hurt. It could have been worse.
The burglar dropped his passport and the security personnel, M'Bathonha Mendes, picked it up and when he found out that it was Cowell's, he gave a chase. The valuables were recovered but the burglar managed to get away. He was promised a Christmas bonus for a job well done.
His personal bodyguard, however, was in the toilet at the time.
In an interview with The Sun, a source said. "Unfortunately security was anything but safe. The burglar found the key and 'bingo,' he was in."
A family friend also told The Sun, "Obviously Simon and Lauren are really badly shaken by this.
"It is a horrible violation of their privacy. But more than anything they are incredibly relieved no one was hurt.
Cowell, also in an interview with the Sun, said, "The most frightening thing is someone has been in your house. It's not what they steal, it's that's someone can break into your house. It's nerve-racking. There are private security guards who patrol the area and they saw the guy leave and he dropped my passport.
[One] got out the car, picked up my passport, realised it was mine and approached the guy. The guy ran off and then he [the guard] told us there was somebody who'd burgled the house - that's how we found out about it."
Despite everything, being professional that he is, Cowell showed up for work the next day, although he wanted to be with his family.
