Morgan Freeman Had A Plane Crash Scare; Oscar-Winning Actor Unhurt

Morgan Freeman is alive and well, his family and fans can now stop worrying.

A private plane carrying Morgan Freeman, an Oscar-winning actor, made an emergency landing when it blew a tire on takeoff. The actor and his pilot were both unhurt.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the SJ30 jet made an unexpected landing in Tunica, about 40 miles (65km) away, where it went off the runway, reports BBC. In a released statement through his publicist, the famous iconic actor said, "Sometimes things don't go as planned and a tyre blew on take-off, which caused other problems."

He added, "But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety."

The Guardian, reporting on the same issue, adds the aircraft had a reported mechanical problem after it took off from from Fletcher Field in Lyon, just outside Clarksdale. This information was confirmed by Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The condition of the plane was not discussed but Bill Luckett, mayor of Clarksdale and a friend of the actor, said that another plane went to Tunica to pick up Freeman after the incident. Apart from the pilot, he was the only person on board.

It can also be recalled that Freeman got involved in a 2008 car accident seriously injuring him and a passenger in Mississippi on a rural highway near his home. There were no charges filed then butFreeman had settled a lawsuit in 2009 filed by the passenger who was also injured.

Freeman's prominent movies include, "The Shawshank Redemption," "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Seven." On top of his Best Supporting Actor Oscar award for his role in "Million Dollar Baby," a 2004 Clint Eastwood film, he has also been nominated for five Academy awards.
