George Lucas Has Seen 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens;" Describes Lack of Involvement In The Film Like a 'Divorce'

The creator of "Star Wars," George Lucas, has finally seen "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the latest addition to the popular franchise, which is yet to be released on the 18th of this month.

Lucas was not involved in the making of "Force Awakens." When he saw the film, according to Lucas Film president Kathleen Kennedy, "he really liked it."

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy said, "watching this go on without his direct involvement was 'tough' for Lucas. At the same time, he really wanted to step away."

She added, "If there's one thing I've learned about George is it's that he's never, ever held back. Having him 100 percent on board is up to him and he can't do that unless he's running everything."

Lucas himself said, "I call it like a divorce. There is no such thing as working over someone's shoulder. You're either the dictator or you're not. And to do that would never work, so I said 'I'm going to get divorced'... I knew that I couldn't be involved. All I'd do is make them miserable. I'd make myself miserable. It would probably ruin a vision - [director JJ Abrams] has a vision, and it's his vision."

In addition, according to NME, Harrison Ford has also confirmed seeing the movie and referred to it as "really big."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in the UK on Thursday,  Dec. 17 while it opens the following day in the US.

The story of the film commences 30 years after the events of "Return Of The Jedi" but the specific plot details are kept tightly under wraps.

It is also the first in a planned once-a-year series of "Star Wars" sequels and spinoffs from Disney and Lucasfilm and the recent film stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher and newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver.
