The "Ace Combat" Series from publisher Bandai Namco has dominated the virtual skies for more than 20 years. It began as "Air Combat" released in 1992 for Arcade and Sony PlayStation and became later known as "Ace Combat" beginning in 1997.
According to Tech Buffalo, titles in the series have been developed from one platform to another with "Ace Combat: Assault Horizon" releasing in 2011 on multi-platform namely Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. However, since the rise of games like "Call of Duty", things did not go well for the flight simulator. But before that, "Ace Combat 04" and "Ace Combat 5" were the absolute masterpieces.
Tech Buffalo said that the word that developer Project Aces is working on "Ace Combat 7" has been leaked ahead of the 2015 PlayStation Experience (PSX) in San Francisco, California. It was also rumored that a reveal trailer will be featured in the said event.
The rumors turned out to be true. While attending the 2015 PlayStation Experience, Sony's Adam Boyes has announced that an "Ace Combat 7" is underway. According to GameSpot, it is the sequel to "Ace Combat Infinity," that was released in 2014 by Bandai Namco exclusively on PlayStation 3. Boyes has admitted that the title is still in the early stages of development so a release date nor details on gameplay was not announce. But as previously rumored, an announcement trailer was showed during PSX.
Meanwhile, according to Forbes, "Ace Combat 7" will be exclusive to Sony PlayStation 4 and will have support of VR. The said game will be developed on Unreal Engine 4. It was also said that unlike "Ace Combat Infinity," which was sort of a flop despite being free, "Ace Combat 7" will go back to its roots but with improved graphics. The good thing with VR support is that it will give players that feeling of actually controlling the plane from the cockpit.
