It was just last month that Tag Heuer introduced its first luxury smartwatch called Carrera Connected. And now, Tech Crunch reported that Jean-Claude Biver, Tag Heuer's chairman, has revealed that the company is increasing its weekly production from 1,200 to 2,000 pieces to meet the high demand for it.
Biver also said that they are trying to freeze online sales in order to fully accommodate retailers and the fact that manufacturers start to lose control over its sales process. Selling watches in retail stores is much more expensive than those sold online, but the current demand is focused on stores.
Smart Watch shared that the success that the TAG gets from physical stores made the company decide to stop online sales until the summer of 2016.
Tech Crunch noted that the fact that Biver announced the revamp in production at all "means even he didn't expect things to go very well. His statement sounds like he is pleasantly surprised rather than all-in in the digital space."
This luxury smart watch cost around $1,500 and it features a titanium case and comes with six customizable watch bands. The Carrera Connected was also made in conjunction with Intel and Google. It runs using Google's Android Wear operating system. The luxury smartwatch from the Swiss watchmaker is powered by 1.6GHz dual core Intel processor
According to Yibada, since the watch is made of titanium case, it makes it lighter on the wrist which gives it a better edge compared to other smart watches. The watch also features a "transflective display" which makes it still readable even if it is in direct sunlight, It also has a steady "on mode" to display the time.
Meanwhile, buyers have an option to upgrade to a limited edition mechanical watch and they just have to add another $1,500.
